March is the month where we celebrate many things including Mother's Day and International Women's Day so I thought it appropriate to feature some inspiring mums and we'll be showcasing them throughout March - hope you enjoy the "March of Inspiring Mums" series!
Today we speak with Clare Bowers, who shares her story on how being in the Royal Navy helped give her a range of skills for setting up and running her MUMBOSSUK platform, which helps other mums in business. She's also an advocate of self-care, planning and not rushing about. Clare is based in Liverpool with her family including 3 young children.
1. Tell me a little about yourself and how you got into the job you’re now doing?
I’m 32 years old, I joined the Royal Navy at the young age of 16, this is where all of my skills around running a business started especially the discipline and routine I have over the platform, which I think is key to running any successful business. The platform I have created came from when I tried to set up my own business - I found that there wasn’t a lot of support for women in business, especially mothers.
Tell me one interesting fact about you?
I really enjoy horse riding and could possibly have been a horse whisper just not whilst riding - that part is pretty tricky!
Please can you share 3 tips for managing the juggle of motherhood, life and business?
1. Routine is a must.
2. Structure because you can’t run a business how you decide each morning - you need to set a weekly or monthly POA and stick to it.
3. The last one would be not to get caught up with what everyone else is doing because only you were given your vision and only you can get yourself to the goals that you want to achieve.
What’s the best piece of advice you could give a new mum?
Slow down and remember to take care of yourself especially through the early stages, it goes too fast to miss it by rushing about.
Colour can make a real difference to our mood - what’s your favourite colour? And how does it make you feel when you wear it?
My favourite colour is green, I feel empowered. My eye colour is green so I don’t know if that's linked to why?
What’s your favourite activity to do with your family?
I’m so lucky that all of my children would rather play outside or go on an adventure because I love the outdoors so much.
What do you like to do for some me-time?
My me-time does actually include working on my platform, only because this includes amazing networking events at beautiful venues. I get to escape the madness every other week! I also really enjoy my weekly massage, that's proper me-time!
Thanks Clare, it is so inspiring to see another mum in business wanting to help other women. I also love that you are an advocate of self-care - I think sometimes we are so busy that we forget about ourselves but it is so important (especially as a mum) to look after yourself so you can look after others.
