Our "March of Inspiring Mums" interview series celebrates women who are doing some amazing things, whether through business, a campaign or just being fabulous!
Today's interview is with Isabella Strambio, mum to two children from Hampshire, who describes herself as "a Maker and Creator". Starting a career in Interior Design she wasn't fulfilled so set up on her own to become even more creative through her business TWOME.
In her Interview with us, Isabella shares why we should make time for ourselves and how this can help with juggling work with motherhood.
Tell me a little about yourself and how you got into the job you’re now doing?
My background in Interior design but I didn’t feel I could truly express my creativity. In May 2016 I started my blog to record my personal creative journey ‘learning 12 crafts in 12 months’.
A few months later, I was asked to run a macrame workshop and that was the start of my side business and one year ago I quit interior design to work full time on TWOME. I now make items for my own shop and an online boutique. I run live workshops and online courses and write macrame tutorials for crafts magazines.
Tell me one interesting fact about you?
I’m half Japanese and half Italian, living in the UK now but for 10 years my husband and I lived and worked in Australia, Dubai, Belgium and Italy.
Please can you share 3 tips for managing the juggle of motherhood, life and business?
1. Learn to say NO to projects / work that don’t really excite you
2. Set some boundaries when it’s just family time
3. Take even just 5 minutes during the day for yourself (paint your nails, a hot shower, read a book, drink a cup of tea in peace and quiet...)
What’s the best piece of advice you could give a new mum?
You can do it, one small step at the time and be kind to yourself.
Colour can make a real difference to our mood - what’s your favourite colour? And how does it make you feel when you wear it?
I love white but I wear black a lot. They both go well with anything!
What’s your favourite activity to do with your children?
At the moment cycling.
What do you like to do for some me-time?
Read a good book and escape into another world or listening to music really loud in the car on my own.
Thanks Isabella for sharing your story and tips with us. It's so inspiring to hear how someone took the plunge to set up their own business to become more fulfilled in their work.
