March is the month where we celebrate many things including Mother's Day and International Women's Day so I thought it appropriate to feature some inspiring mums and we'll be showcasing them throughout March - hope you enjoy the "March of Inspiring Mums" series!
Our interview today is with Louise Thomas, mum to nearly 3 year old Maggie. She lives in Norwich and owns her skin therapy business, U & your Skin. She is also about to launch Louise Thomas Skin Care - her signature skincare range. Below she shares with us why she decided to specialise in skin health and how Latin Ballroom dancing nearly took her on a different career path!
1. Tell me a little about yourself and how you got into the job you’re now doing?
I started my career in the beauty industry aged 16 as a salon Saturday girl. Cleaning the shower, making coffee for clients & booking their appointments. I went straight from School to College & trained initially as a beauty therapist for 2 years full time. I gained my NVQ 3 qualification & the international CIDESCO diploma & went on to have a very diverse career in the industry managing salons & beauty businesses, working for an international skin care brand as an account manager & trainer, gaining a Cert Ed teaching qualification & teaching beauty & skin therapy all while being an Acne sufferer myself.
It was having this Acne that actually led me to specialise in skin health, propelling my skin health knowledge & that ultimately led me to develop my signature facial & skin care range. I’ve been an entrepreneur for 12 years now.
Tell me one interesting fact about you?
I was going to be a Pro Ballroom & Latin dancer but Beauty Therapy got in the way.
Please can you share 3 tips for managing the juggle of motherhood, life and business?
There aren’t any! *laughs* I think if you truly love what you do you will always find a way. I feel that although life is pretty bonkers right now that it is ‘My time’ to conquer it all.
What's the best piece of advice you could give a new mum?
Trust your own instincts & do what’s right for your family! Don’t get sucked into listening & being confused by others.
Colour can make a real difference to our mood - what’s your favourite colour? And how does it make you feel when you wear it?
Black - I feel powerful.
What’s your favourite activity to do with your family?
Anything outdoors. We always do something active every day. The park, the beach or even just a ‘scoot’ down to the local coffee shop.
What do you like to do for some me-time?
Pilates. Its been my go to for the past 14 years. I’m lucky to have a weekly one-to-one session with an instructor so it makes me focus on me & my body for that time. I also love a facial too of course!
Thanks Louise for sharing your inspiring story. Your passion for your job and your business really shines through and I love that your determination and hard work as got you to where you are today. It's a lovely industry and self-care is so important. Best of luck with the new skincare launch too!
